Exercises for End Rhymes

  1. Rhyme Mapping

  • Objective: Identify and create rhymes.

  • Exercise: Use a list of random words. Then, come up with as many rhyming words for each as possible. For example, for the word "game," write "fame," "name," "blame," etc.

  • Example: Word: Light

  • Objective: Complete given lines with rhymes.

  • Exercise: Here is a series of half-written lines, and they must complete them with appropriate end rhymes.

  • Example: Given: "I hustle every day and night,"

  • Complete: "To make sure my future's bright."

  1. Freestyle Rhyming

  • Objective: Improve spontaneous rhyming ability.

  • Exercise: Set a timer for 1-2 minutes and have the artist freestyle, focusing on using end rhymes in each line. Record the session for later review.

  • Example: "I step up to the mic, feeling right, shining bright, like a star in the night."

Exercises for Internal Rhymes

  1. Internal Rhyme Identification - Objective: Recognize internal rhymes in existing lyrics.

  2. Exercise: Take lyrics from Lose Yourself by Eminiem, and highlight or underline the internal rhymes. Eminem, Joel Ortiz, Hospin have examples or Lyrics: "I'm a lyrical genius, with a mic in my hand, I stand, command the land."

  1. Sentence Creation - Objective: Create sentences with internal rhymes.

  2. Exercise: Take a word and create sentences that include an internal rhyme with that word. Example: Word: Flow, Sentence: "My flow's so cold, it unfolds like snow."

  1. Fill in the Blanks - Objective: Practice inserting internal rhymes.

  2. Exercise: Fill in blanks where the internal rhyme should be with appropriate rhymes.

  1. Rhyme Chains - Objective: Create multiple internal rhymes in a single line or a set of lines.

  2. Exercise: Challenge to Write 10 lines that contain at least two internal rhymes. Example: "I'm quick with the flick of my wrist, can't resist, I persist."
